My name is Sairah Malik and I am honored to be a member of the board for The Off Ramp. When Nell mentioned to me that she was starting this non profit, my first question was: “How can I help?" Shortly thereafter, I was nominated to be part of the board and I gladly accepted.
I am very passionate about The Off Ramp's mission and work. Being able to help someone who has been displaced or is at risk of displacement is important work. Yes, it is rewarding but mostly it is necessary that we work tirelessly to prevent these types of situations from occurring in the first place. I am grateful to have a platform through The Off Ramp and to offer my time to help this organization succeed in what it has set out to do.
I met Nell a few years ago at a women's networking event and we immediately hit it off. She is such a passionate and hard working woman! I loved her energy right from the start! My relationship with Nell is one of admiration. I admire her tremendously and I often say, “I want to be Nell when I grow up!" She truly does God’s work and has no boundaries when it comes to whom she is willing to help. She wants to see the refugee community feel at home and valued in their new country and to help them find their talents and create a life with purpose. This work makes the world a better place to live in and I am so glad I am on this journey with her!
Lastly, as many of you know I am an optometrist with a clinic that is located in the central Houston area. Through the platform of The Off Ramp, we accept donations of gently used frames. We work with families on a case by case basis to get them eye care they may not have access to otherwise. As this program develops we hope to reach more and more families and individuals who need it most!
I am looking forward to being a part of the continued success and impact of this organization!
