A Path to Independence and Stability

Dear Friends of The Off Ramp,

Today, I want to share the story of two women who are rebuilding their lives after facing unimaginable hardship—and how you can help them take the next step with just $75.

Priscilla (original names not used) and her fellow seamstress, Mary, lived in a small village in Northern Myanmar. They used their sewing and embroidery skills to support their families and community. But when the military coup hit in 2021, everything changed. The conflict has devastated their homeland, forcing Priscilla, Mary, and their families to flee into the jungle with little more than the clothes on their backs.

For five grueling days, they traveled through dangerous terrain, eventually finding refuge in a border town in Thailand. Sadly, they had to leave their sewing machines and supplies behind, and it’s uncertain whether they’ll ever be able to retrieve them. Their village has been bombed and blockaded, and the ongoing conflict shows no signs of resolution.

Despite these immense challenges, Priscilla and Mary are determined to rebuild their lives—and we want to help them do it. These two women are talented seamstresses, one specializing in sewing and the other in embroidery. They plan to work together, sharing a sewing machine and serger to support their families from the safety of their new home.

Thanks to a generous donor who contributed $500, we are able to purchase the sewing machine and serger that Priscilla and Mary need. Now, we just need $75 more to buy the initial supplies—fabric, thread, and other essentials—so they can get started again.

Their skills are more than just a livelihood—they are a way to bring hope to a community still recovering from trauma. For these women, sewing isn’t just a job; it’s a path to independence and stability. Your gift today will make a real, lasting impact on their lives and the future they are building for their families.

Will you help us raise the final $75? Give here.

Thank you for being part of The Off Ramp and for making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

UPDATE: This project is now fully funded.
